Em ação violenta, a Polícia Militar do Maranhão prendeu vinte indígenas do povo Akroá-Gamella na manhã de hoje (18/11), no território Taquaritiua, em Viana (MA). Entre eles um agente da CPT Maranhão, o Kum´Tum Gamella. Também foram apreendidos celulares e equipamentos fotográficos de indígenas que registravam a abordagem.

Organizações e movimentos sociais realizam coletiva de imprensa na próxima quarta-feira, 17 de novembro, às 9h30, para denunciar a escalada nos conflitos agrários e assassinatos de camponeses e camponesas no estado do Maranhão. Somente em 2021, nove trabalhadores e trabalhadoras rurais foram mortos em decorrência de conflitos no campo.

Nesta sexta-feira (12), a Comissão Pastoral da Terra (CPT) da Diocese de Juazeiro (BA) celebrará 45 anos de serviço e missão. Criada em 1976, pelo então bispo Dom José Rodrigues, a CPT continua até hoje na defesa da terra e territórios, sendo presença solidária junto aos camponeses e camponesas da região. Para celebrar essa longa caminhada, a Pastoral irá realizar o Seminário “CPT Juazeiro: 45 anos Semeando Esperança”, que acontecerá na Casa Dom José Rodrigues, localizada no bairro Piranga em Juazeiro.
CPT divulga Nota de Pesar pelo falecimento de Padre Virgílio Leite Uchôa, que faleceu ontem (10), aos 84 anos. A Nota destaca que "ele, fiel seguidor do Evangelho, colocava no centro de suas preocupações os que mais sofriam as injustiças por parte do sistema dominante. Isso o fez participar da criação da Comissão Brasileira de Justiça e Paz (CBJP), e a apoiar incansavelmente as pastorais sociais que buscavam incentivar o protagonismo dos pequenos na luta por seus direitos, de modo particular a Comissão Pastoral da Terra e o Conselho Indigenista Missionário (CIMI)".
